India Telecom Operators Expected to Face Spectrum Cap

India's Telecom Commission of the Department of Telecommunications plans to limit the maximum amount of radio bandwidth one telecom operator can hold and charge bandwidth at current market prices, according to an August 2, 2011 report by the Wall Street Journal. It is reported that the proposals are made by the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India). The government is expected to levy charges for any excess airwaves held by the telecom operators. It is projected that the Telecom Commission will clarify with TRAI on market price calculation for the spectrum.
